Frequently Asked Questions
What is PRP?
PRP stands for Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program, also known as therapeutic mentoring. This service involves working collaboratively with existing therapists on existing diagnoses to provide therapeutic activities both in the community and in office settings.
How is PRP Different from Therapy?
Unlike traditional therapy, PRP offers more interactive and community-based activities. Clients participate in various activities such as park visits, nature hikes, and group sessions, which include anger management classes, art expression, and fun games. The goal is to exhibit good behavior, make good choices, and show positive social skills while working on individualized goals.
How Does PRP Work?
The process starts with a referral from a licensed therapist or psychiatrist. Once approved, a PRP counselor is assigned to the client. Together with the client and their family, an Individual Rehabilitation Plan (IRP) is developed. Counselors meet with clients weekly (at least four times a month), with visits rotating between home, community, and office settings.
Who Qualifies for PRP?
Children aged 5-17 who are working with a therapist or psychiatrist and have medical assistance qualify for PRP services.
